1. Ben Hall
Ben Hall was born on 9 May 1837 in the town of Wallis Plains near Maitland, New South Wales, but he spent a significant part of his life in Forbes. He became a notorious bushranger, leading a gang of outlaws during the Gold Rush era in Australia. Hall's gang was involved in various robberies and confrontations with the authorities. He was killed by police in a shootout on 5 May 1865 near Forbes.
2. Francis Forbes
Francis Forbes was born on 3 December 1784 in Bermuda and died on 8 November 1841 in London, England. Although born in Bermuda, Forbes played a significant role in the town of Forbes, New South Wales. He was appointed the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1823 and held the position until his retirement in 1837. Forbes was known for his influential decisions that helped shape the legal system in colonial Australia.
3. Oscar-winning cinematographer John Seale
John Seale was born on 5 October 1942 in Warwick, Queensland, but he spent his childhood in Forbes, New South Wales. Seale is a highly regarded cinematographer who has worked on numerous acclaimed films. He won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on the film "The English Patient" (1996). Seale has collaborated with renowned directors and has contributed to the visual aesthetics of many notable movies.
4. Tim Freedman
Tim Freedman, born Timothy Vincent Freedman, is a prominent Australian musician and songwriter. He was born on 27 November 1964 in Sydney, New South Wales, but spent much of his childhood and teenage years in Forbes. Freedman is best known as the lead vocalist and pianist of the Australian rock band, The Whitlams. The band has achieved significant success, winning multiple ARIA Awards (Australian Recording Industry Association) and producing several chart-topping albums.
